8-1-09: PREP staff conducted hourly presentations on the benefits of riparian buffers during this annual Moose Mountains Regional Greenways public outreach event.

Oyster Restoration on WMUR's NH Chronicle

NH Chronicle story, September 10 and 7:30 p.m.
On Thursday, September 10, at 7:30 p.m. NH Chronicle on WMUR Channel 9 will air a 10 minute story on oyster restoration in Great Bay, focusing on a project in the Oyster River conducted by The Nature Conservancy, in cooperation with UNH Jackson Laboratory and NH Fish and Game Department. Media stories about the project have been published in Foster's Daily Democrat, and NH Public Radio.

Restoration Celebration
On Thursday, October 15, from 2:00– 3:30 p.m. at the Winnicut Dam in Greenland, NH, coastal restoration partners and dignitaries will commemorate two tremendous accomplishments for New Hampshire’s estuaries: the Winnicut Dam Removal Project and the new Partnership to Restore New Hampshire’s Estuaries. PREP 2010 Local Grants Program:
Request for Proposals

PREP is accepting proposals for projects through its annual Local Grants Program. Selected projects in the PREP focus area will result in achievement or significant progress toward achievement of one or more Action Plans described in the PREP Management Plan. Projects may begin January 1, 2010. An applicant may submit a project proposal for up to $8,000 of PREP funds. A 50% match of non-federal cash or in-kind services is required. Proposals are due to PREP no later than 4:00 p.m. on September 24, 2009. Proposal Requirements (.pdf) or (MS WORD).

RFP

The National Estuary Program-NOAA Community-based Restoration Partnership (NEP/CRP) invites preproposals for its citizen-driven habitat restoration projects. The partnership is seeking to fund on-the-ground activities within watersheds of the National Estuary Programs that restore marine, estuarine, and riparian habitats benefiting living marine resources and foster local stewardship of the coastal environment. PREP Supports Municipal Registration Fees for Stormwater Center Workshops
In October 2009, the UNH Stormwater Center is conducting two stormwater Best Management Practices (BMP) workshops at its field facility on the Durham campus. PREP will pay registration fees for municipal staff and Planning Board and Conservation Commission members for the 52 Maine and New Hampshire communities in the PREP focus area. Register at Stormwater Center’s website. Confirm eligibility by contacting PREP.

Great Bay Recreational Use Survey
The Great Bay Siltation Commission is studying recreational uses of the Great Bay watershed and invites anyone to complete a survey to help determine the types and perceived quality of recreational experiences. Please complete the survey by September 25, 2009. Take Survey

Pepperweed Patrol is looking for reports
NH Coastal Program's Pepperweed Patrol is urging citizens to report stands of perennial pepperweed (Lepidium latifolium) in coastal NH. Report sightings to NHDES Coastal Program at 559-1500 and learn more at the Pepperweed Patrol website.

SWA Public Meeting
A public information meeting on the Southeast Watershed Alliance (SWA) is scheduled for Tuesday, September 29 at the Nottingham Town Hall at 6:30 p.m. The SWA, established by RSA 485-E in the 2009 legislative session, will enable and empower New Hampshire communities in the coastal watershed to join together to find cost-effective and creative ways to improve water quality in the region. 8-4-09: PREP staff met with Lee Conservation Commissioners to discuss the town's Community Technical Assistance Program (CTAP) project to develop stewardship plans for two town-owned conservation properties.
ctap Fremont CTAP Meeting
8-5-09: PREP staff met with Fremont Conservation Commissioners to further develop the town's CTAP project to create and distribute a buffer newspaper.
ctap Greenland CTAP Meeting
8-12-09: PREP staff met with Greenland Conservation Commissioners to further develop the town's CTAP project to create a buffer newspaper and conduct an evaluation of the outreach piece.
NROC Meeting
8-12-09: The Natural Resources Outreach Coalition (NROC) is planning to coordinate with the Lamprey River Watershed Association and Lamprey River Advisory Committee on an outreach program designed to assist Lamprey River Watershed towns with better regulatory and non-regulatory environmental protection efforts. The effort will utilize the results of the soon-to-be completed "Piscataqua Region Environmental Planning Assessment".

Fremont CTAP Meeting
8-17-09: PREP staff met with Fremont Conservation Commission to develop a buffer newspaper as part of the PREP Community Technical Assistance Program.

stormdrain Erosion and Sediment Control Project
8-18-09: PREP staff led a kickoff meeting for the Erosion and Sedimentation Control study to be conducted by FB Environmental.
VIP VIP Tour of Great Bay Estuary
8-26-09: PREP staff hosted 13 municipal land use officials and their guests on the annual V.I.P. tour on board the UNH Gulf Challenger. Ten communities in the PREP focus area were represented and presenters included Phil Trowbridge on PREP Monitoring Program, Derek Sowers on PREP Land Transaction Grant Program, Dan Kern on Bear-Paw Regional Greenways activities, and Amanda Stone on NROC and the new PREP Piscataqua Region Environmental Planning Assessment.
US EPA GPRA Reporting Complete
8-31-09: PREP completed its annual Government Performance Results Act reporting to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Over the past year, PREP-supported projects resulted in the protection of 1,614 acres of habitat largely through the program's Land Protection Transaction Grants Program, and PREP leveraged $1.16 million from partners to support implementation of the Management Plan.
