Deadline nears for 2009 Local Grants Applications
The NHEP is accepting project proposals for its annual Local Grants Program. An applicant may submit a project proposal for up to $8,000 of NHEP funds; however a 50% match is required. An original proposal and five double-sided copies must be received by NHEP Project Coordinator, Dave Kellam, by 4:00 p.m. Download Request for Proposals (Word Version)

Woods, Water, and Wildlife Festival
08-02-08: NHEP staff conducted hourly presentations on the benefits of riparian buffers during this annual Moose Mountains Regional Greenways public outreach event.

NH Fish and Game Activities that Support the NH Estuaries Project (Fish Passage Improvements)

Repairs being made to Lamprey River Fishladder
In support of New Hampshire Fish and Game’s anadromous fish management program, this project assisted with fish passage repairs in four NH coastal rivers (Cocheco, Lamprey, Exeter, and Oyster Rivers) and dredged accumulated sediment in the Cocheco River to ensure fish passage efficiency.

Great Bay Great Bay Issues Meeting
08-04-08: NHEP staff attended a meeting of coastal organizations and interested parties organized by Representatives Borden and Spang to discuss nutrient loading to the Great Bay Estuary.

08-05-08: NHEP staff met with members of the Spruce Creek Association to discuss future coordination.

VIP Tour VIP Tour of Great Bay Estuary
08-20-08: NHEP staff hosted 15 municipal land use officials and their guests on the annual V.I.P. tour on board the UNH Gulf Challenger. Ten communities in the NHEP focus area were represented and presenters included Phil Trowbridge on NHEP Monitoring Program, Kevin Lucey on NH Coastal Program invasive species control projects, and Dr. Dave Burdick on UNH estuarine research.
Danville CTAP Meeting
08-21-08: NHEP staff attended a meeting of Danville town boards and committees to review the final chapters of the Stewardship Plan for the Town Forest.
GPRA Reports Submitted to EPA
08-22-08: NHEP Director submits annual Government Performance Results Act (GPRA) report to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Over the past year, NHEP projects and activities resulted in the protection or restoration of 362 acres of habitat, and the program leveraged $1.8 million in funding to support implementation of the Management Plan.

Announcements

UNH Stormwater Center Workshops
In 2008, the UNH Stormwater Center will host workshops at its field facility to demonstrate a number of stormwater treatment technologies. The NHEP will pay registration fees for members of planning boards, conservation commissions, and zoning boards of adjustment, as well as town planning and public works staff from NHEP’s watershed communities. Register at Stormwater Center’s website. Confirm sponsorship eligibility by contacting the NHEP.

Accepting 2008 Land Transaction Grant Applications
The NHEP has funding available in 2008 to assist with transaction costs associated with high priority permanent land protection projects within the New Hampshire coastal watershed. Applications from nonprofit 501(c)(3) conservation organizations or government entities are currently being accepted for up to $3000 per project. Download Application

Accepting Applications for Community Technical Assistance Program
The NHEP is accepting applications from municipal planning boards and conservation commissions through Round 3 of its Community Technical Assistance Program (CTAP), which provides consulting assistance to communities on a wide range of regulatory and nonregulatory approaches to natural resources protection.
