Dave Kellam, Eric Aldrich (The Nature Conservancy), Barbara McMillian (NH Department of Environmental Services), and Joyce El Kourati (Moose Mountain Regional Greenways) met at Kingman Farm to discuss the implementation of Action Plan EDU-2 which is to work with the seacoast newspapers to establish a monthly newspaper column devoted to coastal natural resource issues. Barbara McMillian volunteered to setup a meeting with the Portsmouth Herald to establish the column.
2/25/04 - GBNERR Coastal Training Program Advisory Committee Meeting
Jennifer Hunter attended the second Advisory Committee meeting to provide input on the development of the Research Reserve's Coastal Training Program. The Advisory Committee reviewed information from surveys of existing training providers and surveys of local decision makers who participate in training programs. Information will be used by the Reserve to develop a Market Analysis and a Needs Assessment later this year. Those documents will identify training needs and gaps and, along with input from the Advisory Team, will help shape the program developed by the Reserve.
2/23/04 - Municipal Conservation Outreach and Technical Assistance, Center for Land Conservation Assistance (Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests)
The Center for Land Conservation Assistance Central (CLCA) created the Saving Special Places: Community Funding for Land Conservation guidebook to function as their keystone document in their outreach efforts to educate municipalities about land conservation funding options, in particular utilization of the Land Use Change Tax. The 150-page guidebook presents a comprehensive view of the reasons to conserve land in New Hampshire, the available funding sources, key strategies for engaging citizens and case studies from New Hampshire communities. The CLCA also conducted 8 workshops about municipal funding options for land conservation in the Seacoast and provided direct technical assistance to 24 municipalities within the coastal watershed.
